I love artwork and appreciate the creative skills of artists. Watercolour is a medium I had great difficulty with during my studies in Fine Arts and this only increased my admiration for those who have mastered this skill. I came across Galen Hazelhofer and her beautiful watercolour paintings and naturally, her ‘Zebra Dreams’ piece grabbed my attention, not only for its composition but use of colour.

Galen loves her animals which is clearly and superbly expressed in her work. She is also an ardent supporter of the plight of elephants and is deeply perturbed by their treatment in circuses and zoos. After seeing the information on her website and the 60 Minutes program I saw recently on TV about an elephant orphanage in Kenya, I have been inspired to dedicate a page on my website called Plight of Elephants to also help spread the word about the abuse of this magnificent creature.

Galen’s website Angel Doggie is definitely worth a look as her artwork is simply delightful.

This is just fantastic. Who would have dreamt that someone would take drawing pictures on dirty rear car windows to such an artistic level! Scott Wade did precisely that and has his own website with a visual record of his Dirty Car Art. The sense of perspective in his work is fabulous considering he is not working with colour to create depth more easily. A brush in hand and a creative mind is all he needs.

As described on his website:

Like any reasonable creative and curious human, Scott can’t resist a dirty rear car window. We suspect that Scott started off with clever sayings like “wash me”. Probably his first image would have been the ubiquitous smiley face. Unlike most folks however, Scott lives on a mile and a half of dirt road -caliche as the locals call it, road base: a blend of limestone dust and gravel and clay. Driving over this surface results in a fine, white dust that billows up behind any vehicle driven faster than a galloping turtle, coating the rear window. Being an experienced artist (and let’s face it, a little…different), it wasn’t long before Scott was experimenting with techniques to achieve these amazingly, detailed and shaded drawings.

The example below is only a small taste of his creative flair. There are many more designs to see on his website.
