Toxic insect repellent

We are moving into spring which brings warmer weather and that means mosquitoes and flies. Are you driven to insanity by pesty flies and mozzies which seem to zone in on you and no one else?
Do you resort to covering yourself with insect repellant to protect yourself? Do you know what is in that inset repellent you put on your skin? Obviously it will be some form of toxic substance to deter the insects but is it toxic to humans too?
An article in Natural News suggests that Insect repellent DEET is toxic to brain cells and can cause damage to your central nervous system. This is very worrying news. Just goes to show that you cannot always trust scientists to tell you the right thing.
I am a big advocate of using organic products for most things which I consume or place on my body or skin. Chemicals are bad news if used all the time and even scientists can’t absolutely guarantee them to be totally safe.
If you are bothered by mozzies, there are more natural alternatives to deal with them which are far safer for your mind and body.
The website Avoiding Bites, also has some interesting information.
